RCP is a friendly group of active people, focused primarily on fitness paddling and competitive racing within the Sacramento area and beyond. You will see us training on Lake Natoma, the Lower American River, and also on Folsom Lake. Most of us paddle surf ski or flat water kayak, but we equally welcome marathon canoe, outrigger canoe, SUP, and touring kayak classes in all of our activities. The club hosts several races throughout each year and also provides assistance to local events held by other organizations such as Hui O Hawaii and Current Adventures.
We continually donate and provide resources to support the Eppie's Great Race Foundation. And in past years, we have given surplus funds to Friends of the River, Save the American River Association, and the CSUS Aquatic Center.
Membership:To race is to join! There are no membership fees other than the entry fees to our events.
History:River City Paddlers was formed in the early 1980's by members of the San Andreas Racing Comittee. The founding club members: Lin Feil, Wayne Parker, Rob Ueltzen, Mike Ammon, John Weed and John Holland, originally wanted to create an organization that focused on slalom and downriver races. The club's beginning was modest and casual, involving only a handful of dedicated participants. But still the group was determined to host their own 'signature event'. It did not take long for the members to create the first annual Kyburz Slalom and Downriver Race. This appropriately named event does not need much more explanation except that it was held on the South Fork of the American River. The club eventually added other canoe and kayak races, most of them being held on Lake Natoma and on the Lower American River. Some of these early events continue to remain popular to this day, including the Eppie's Race Clinic, the Eppie's Pre Race, and the infamous Yo Yo race.
Club Officers:Active communications are maintained through the RCP Yahoo Group. You will need a Yahoo ID in order to join the group.
We also have a 'River City Paddlers' group that you will find by doing a search on Facebook.
